QOPI Certification Page - AndrewsPatel Hematology and Oncology

“We’re proud to share Andrews Patel Hematology/Oncology is QOPI® certified. We feel this acknowledges our commitment to excellence in caring for patients with oncologic and hematologic conditions. Please read on to learn more about the certification program,” Kathryn Peroutka, MD.

Andrews Patel Hematology/Oncology has been recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The QOPI® Certification Program (QCP™) provides a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care. As one of only two practices in the region to be awarded this certification and the largest independent hematology/oncology practice in south-central PA, we remain committed to providing each of our patients with exceptional quality care.

This past spring, Andrews Patel Hematology/Oncology successfully participated in a voluntary comprehensive site assessment evaluating our compliance with QOPI®’s standards, which are consistent with national guidelines. Among QOPI®’s 20 core standards, our care includes:

  • Treatment planning guided by NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network).
  • Comprehensive educational programs for staff and patients.
  • Computerized drug order entry for all chemotherapy orders.
  • 24/7 clinical support with an oncologist always available by phone.
  • Safe chemotherapy administration in a comfortable setting.
  • Focus on patient well-being throughout all phases of treatment.

Having met all elements of each standard, we were awarded QOPI® certification in March of 2015. In keeping with our commitment to provide exceptional patient care, we plan to maintain QOPI certification through reassessment and chart abstraction on a regular basis.

History and background of the program:

The QOPI® self-assessment and improvement program was launched by ASCO in 2006 to help hematology-oncology and medical oncology practices assess the quality of the care they provide to patients. Through the QOPI® program, practices abstract data from patients’ records up to twice per year and enter this information into a secure database. More than 900 oncology practices have registered for the QOPI® program.

Beginning in January of 2010, ASCO launched the QOPI® Certification Program (QCP™) allowing interested practices to apply for and receive certification by meeting the program’s core standards. Currently more than 250 practices nationwide are certified. This certification for outpatient oncology practices is the first program of its kind for oncology in the United States.

QOPI® analyzes individual practice data and compares these to more than 160 evidence-based and consensus quality measures. The information is then provided in reports to participating practices. Individual practices are also able to compare their performance to data from other practices across the country. Based on this feedback, doctors and practices can identify areas for improvement.

“QOPI® provides oncology practices with the information needed to evaluate and continually improve the quality of care they provide for patients. Since its start in 2010, The QOPI® Certification Program allows practices to maintain their commitment to excellence by providing high quality care for patients with cancer.” ASCO President Peter Paul Yu, MD, FACP, FASCO.
